Perehia Mews

Perehia Mews is a striking, dark-clad architectural home, and the owners wanted an outdoor space with the same considered, low-maintenance feel. We took on the whole backyard — decking, fencing and planting — and designed them as one, so the finished space reads as a natural extension of the house rather than a set of separate jobs.

Warm hardwood decking does the heavy lifting. It runs alongside the living areas and threads through a sheltered courtyard as a boardwalk, stepping neatly around garden beds and giving the family solid, dry ground to move and relax on. The rich timber is a deliberate counterpoint to the dark cladding and paving — the warmth that stops the palette feeling cold.

Dark horizontal-slat fencing wraps the boundary for privacy and a clean, architectural backdrop, with frameless glass around the pool to keep the sightlines open and stay compliant. Built straight and plumb, it screens the neighbours without boxing the courtyard in.

The planting is where it comes alive — tree ferns, cordylines and layered subtropical greenery softening the hard surfaces, with a corten-steel feature and crisp beds cut into the deck and paving. Around the pool, honed paving and tidy edges finish a private, genuinely low-maintenance space the family can enjoy year-round.
