What we do
Landscape Design
Not sure where to start? We'll draw up a plan for your layout, levels, planting and materials. Not sure where to start? We'll draw up a considered plan for your section — layout, levels, planting and materials — so you can build with confidence.
In short
Start with a plan, build with confidence.
The best gardens are planned before a spade goes in the ground. Whether you want to build it all at once or stage it over the years, we'll get the thinking done first — layout, levels, planting and materials — so the build runs smoothly and the budget holds.
A clear vision
Layout, levels, planting and materials worked out on paper, so you can see the whole picture before you commit.
Build it your way
A plan you can build in one go or stage over time as budget allows — and we can build it, or you can.
Down to the last plant
A to-scale plan with a full plant list and materials, so nothing's left to guesswork once we're on site.
Local knowledge
A plan that knows Canterbury.
A good landscape plan isn't just a nice drawing. It's a set of decisions made for your site, our climate and the way you'll actually use the space. Years of designing and building across Christchurch and Canterbury go into every plan, so what looks good on paper still works ten years on.
Your site & our climate
We read the section before we design it — the ground, the aspect and the weather it cops — so the layout works with your site, not against it:
- Where the sun tracks, so patios and living areas land where you'll actually want to sit, whether that's the morning coffee or an evening in the sun.
- Shelter from the nor'wester and the cold easterly, using planting, fencing and screening placed where it counts.
- Frost pockets, drainage and Canterbury's shifting soils — from the sandy coast to heavy clay inland — so levels and planting are chosen to suit.
- Falls and retaining worked out early, so water runs away from the house and the whole section sits right.
How you'll live in it
A plan should fit your life, not a template — so we design around how you'll use the space and what you want to spend:
- Indoor-outdoor flow, and zones for kids, entertaining and quiet corners, mapped to how your household actually lives.
- Low-maintenance, climate-suited planting, so the garden looks after itself instead of owning your weekends.
- Materials chosen to suit the house and stand up to Canterbury weather, and matched across concrete, timber and stone.
- A plan you can build in one go or stage over the years, with the budget worked in from the start.
The result is a plan drawn for your section and your life — considered, buildable, and made to still look right long after the last plant goes in.
How it works
How the design process runs.
A structured way to turn a bare or tired section into a plan you can actually build.
Brief & site visit
We visit, take in the site and its conditions, and get clear on how you want to use the space and what you'd like to spend.
Concept
We develop a concept — layout, zones, levels and a planting direction — and talk it through with you.
Plan & materials
We refine it into a plan with materials, planting and a staging option, so it's ready to price and build.
Build or hand over
We can build the plan for you, or hand it over for your own team to deliver.
FAQs
Good to know.
Do I have to use you to build the design?
Not at all. Plenty of clients have us design and build, but you're welcome to take the plan and build it yourself or with another team — it's yours.
Can I build the plan in stages?
Yes — we design with staging in mind, so you can spread the work and cost over months or years while keeping the end result coherent.
How much does a plan cost?
It depends on the size and complexity of the section. We'll give you a clear price for the design work up front, and it's money well spent before you commit to a build.
