Our Story
How did Landscape Brothers come to be and what are we about?
How it started
A landscape company with a family-first feel.
Landscape Brothers started with a simple goal: to give homeowners those final touches to their outdoor living space, and the street appeal that comes with them.
From the start we wanted a landscape company with a family-first feel — a working-with-family, for-family culture where it genuinely feels like you're heading to work with your brothers each day. So we built a team of landscapers who wanted a career, not just a job, and who take that same pride into every result they deliver.
We sourced our suppliers to match — top-quality products that look the part without breaking the bank.
With Sam at the helm — over 20 years of landscaping across Canterbury and Marlborough — Landscape Brothers are here to make you part of our family. Give us a call to talk through landscape solutions for your place.
“Delivering a result that our Mum(s) would love.”
Who we are
Meet the brothers.
Landscape Brothers and Concrete Brothers are run by the same two founders, Ben and Louis. Both Canterbury born and raised, they built the Brothers companies around a family-first way of working, with Sam leading the landscaping crew on the tools.

Ben
Canterbury born and raised, Ben helped start the Brothers companies after a few years working across the ditch in Bondi. He's about doing every job as if it were for family, because near enough, it is.
Louis
Also Canterbury raised, Louis is the one who got the group off the ground, spotting the gap in Christchurch's new builds and enticing Ben home to build it together. Family-first, done properly.
Local knowledge
When it comes to planting
At Landscape Brothers we understand that choosing your plants, shrubs or trees doesn't stop at what will look good in your garden. We've put together some considerations you should make before choosing, to help you make the right decisions for the best possible results.
Ground & drainage
Ground preparation is highly important when it comes to planting in Canterbury, due to the changing soil and ground conditions we encounter in our beautiful province. From the sandy shores of Sumner and New Brighton to the clay layers of Rolleston and Lincoln, there are a few things to consider when choosing your shrubbery:
- Do your plants' or trees' roots want a high water content to survive, or will they dive deeper in search of the moisture they need?
- If the water doesn't drain away because of the clay ground conditions, is your plant or tree susceptible to root rot?
- If you're planting in sandy or dry soil, it's best to consider plants or trees that send their roots deep in search of water and help with ground erosion.
- What is the drainage like on your property, and how could this affect your plants and trees?
Sun, frost & seasons
With your ground conditions considered, there are a couple more aspects to think about before finalising your plants and trees to ensure they'll survive the elements:
- Is your property susceptible to frosts?
- Will your plants and trees be exposed regularly to sunlight, or predominantly in the shade?
- How will the changes in temperature throughout the year affect your plants and trees in your property's ground conditions?
Once all this has been considered and we've selected our shrubbery, it's time for planting. At Landscape Brothers we only use top-quality soil — an 80% soil and 20% compost mix — to give your plants and trees the nutrients they need to thrive. Why stop there? Let's throw in some slow-release fertiliser tablets for peace of mind that your shrubbery keeps getting its nutrients while it establishes. We've taken care of everything up to this point, so all you need to do is water your garden.
